The dGEMRIC index is highly correlated to mechanical stiffness. A generalized relationship was found to provide good correspondence across sources and regions. Use of the dGEMRIC index as a predictive measure of stiffness is possible, depending on the application's acceptable error. Copyright (c) 2007 Orthopaedic Research Society. PMID: 17427215

An intraobserver analysis for T1 analysis was made in 10 randomly selected SCFE hips. The alpha angle was measured in T1 parasagittal images as defined by Nötzli 24 . For example, adherence to an exercise regimen was shown to increase the dGEMRIC Index [48, 59, 60]. Similarly, in obese subjects, quadriceps strength was shown to correlate positively with dGEMRIC , as did weight loss . In the knees with radiographic OA, the dGEMRIC index at baseline was lower than that in the knees without radiographic OA (P = 0.03). CONCLUSION: The results of the present study support the dGEMRIC index as a clinically relevant measure of cartilage integrity and suggest that a low index may be predictive of the development of knee OA. using T1(Gd) as the dGEMRIC Index as a measure of Gd-DTPA2-distribution may be less suitable at 3T than 1.5T. However, T1(Gd) as an index may prove to be clinically useful.

PMID: 17427215 2006-11-01 · The mean T1 (Gd) within a clinically relevant region of articular cartilage is usually referred to as the dGEMRIC Index 6. In the current dGEMRIC protocol, Gd-DTPA 2− is administered per kilogram body weight with the assumption that the distribution volume of the contrast agent is proportional to body weight. We found that the dGEMRIC index decreased to a substantially higher degree in operatively treated patients with FAI compared with nonoperative management at 1-year followup. The baseline dGEMRIC index correlated with the improvement in the WOMAC score 1 year postoperatively.

Delayed gadolinium-enhanced MRI of cartilage (dGEMRIC): intra- and interobserver va The dGEMRIC index has been shown to be affected by factors, such as exercise , body mass index , and early-stage OA . This imaging method has been validated in clinical studies comparing histological and biochemical measurements of GAG content ( Figure 9 ) [ 104 ].

Delayed gadolinium‐enhanced MRI of cartilage (dGEMRIC) is based on the theory that Gd‐DTPA2− will distribute in inverse relation to cartilage glycosaminoglycan (GAG). T1Gd (T1 after penetration of a

Results: The dGEMRIC index correlated with both pain (rs = -0.50, p < 0.0001) and the lateral center-edge angle (rs = 0.52, p < 0.0001), whereas the joint space width did not correlate with either, with the numbers available.

dGEMRIC index was lower compared to non-injured controls. 2007-04-12 Delayed gadolinium enhanced magnetic resonance imaging of cartilage (dGEMRIC) is a technique to evaluate cartilage quality by estimation of glycosaminoglycan (GAG) content, a low dGEMRIC index indicates low cartilage quality. The characteristic resistance to compressive forces of healthy cartilage relies on high GAG content. dGEMRIC INDEX In the medial compartment, the mean dGEMRIC Index was 14.4% lower (374 61 ms, mean SD) than in the lat-eral reference compartment (437 59 ms, mean SD), consistent with a lower GAG content medially (P<0.001). There was no difference in the dGEMRIC Index between men and women (P¼0.46 medial, P¼0.85 lateral).

However, T1(Gd) as an index may prove to be clinically useful. Alternatively, further dGEMRIC studies could be performed at 1.5T, or at 3T with higher doses of Gd-DTPA2-and/or concurrent measurement of T1o. The dGEMRIC (delayed Gadolinium-Enhanced MRI of Cartilage) technique has been used in numerous studies for quantitative in vivo evaluation of the relative glycosaminoglycan (GAG) content in cartilage [1,2,3,4,5,6].Most studies have analysed bulk values, i.e. a mean post-contrast T1 value in full-thickness cartilage regions of interest (ROI), also referred to as the “dGEMRIC index” []. dGEMRIC index of MCP joints with initially severe synovitis and less severe synovitis in an intra-individual assessment. This underlines the importance of an early treatment in eRA to reduce further cartilage damage of the inflamed joints.
